Suicide is the second leading cause of death for U.S. youth ages 10 to 14 and a leading cause through age 24. Children and adolescents with ADHD carry roughly three to four times the suicide risk of their peers. Suicidal behavior is now appearing earlier — emergency department visits for self-harm in children ages 5 to 11 have risen sharply over the past decade.
